Milestones

When Milestones are reached
Celebrations should be held!
The year is but 3 months in
And already I've excelled!

I began to write again,
More seriously than before.
I've even started painting
And I'm creative once more.

I've been all the way
To Colorado and back
With a crazy female roommate
And her tiny little black cat.

I flew off to London
And took a train to France.
I wandered through the streets alone
Where an Egyptian asked me to dance.

I took public transportation
For the first time ever, ALONE!
I danced on the banks of Seine
With a freedom I've never known.

I saved and bought a car,
The exact one I really wanted.
That was a first, I'll freely admit.
(I'm prepared to be taunted.)

It took me years, but lesson learned,
I know now how to let go.
Another one I needed to know,
Was how and when to say no.

I touched the walls of the Louvre museum
And stood beneath the Eiffel Tower.
I returned just in time
For a man to give me a flower.

I finally gave up the cigarettes
(With some professional aid)
I worked hard day and night
To help to plan a parade.

I walked the bright red carpet in a gown
To the Animation Awards event
Where I walked with two chaperones
Both  the perfect gent.

I helped a friend to face his fears
Of being all alone.
I learned it's not such a horrible thing
To end up on my own.

I went to church with a friend
The first time in 10 years.
While there I figured out
How to open heart and ears.

I walked away from a poisoned heart,
One I once called a friend.
I figured out how to let go,
And to make it end.

I told the world my name -
Told about the Title I hold.
I'm the noble Lady Blackwood, see,
Previously a secret untold.

I've saved a couple lives this year -
Dogs and cats at the Rescue.
And just think, right now,
It's MARCH, the year is still new!

I'll keep right on going
With this forward momentum.
I'm so proud of all I've done
Marching to my own drum!

  1. I just wanted to say hello Miss Amanda. I hope you are doing well and that life is good. I clicked on to see if you had written any poetry recently. I'm sure you are a busy young lady.
Take care, and don't ever stop writing. I stopped writing years ago after some tragic events if my life and it was a mistake.

    Take care and God Bless!

  2. Hello Amanda,

Sorry it has been awhile, but I became a bit uncomfortable with the other blog and the rudeness of some of those who left hateful comments. I have found access to another computer which can't be used by so many people. Please note that anytime you hear from me it will come from a small town about 70 miles north of Little Rock, Arkansas. I moved here about a year ago and do not know very many people yet. It is supposed to be a nice place to retire. I think you referred to Arkansas in more than one of your blogs but I don't remember where in Arkansas.

Have you ever heard of Eden Isle in Arkansas? That is where I reside most of the time. However, I do have another home elsewhere.

I hope things are going well for you and that your life is filled with peace and contentment. (Please say hello to your dear friend Jason for me).

    Take care and God Bless!
    Fran

  3. Fran - I'm so glad to hear from you! I was worried about you, my Dear lady! You've set my mind and heart at ease...

Eden Isle... how ironic... I moved here from Heber Springs. I lived so near to your island that I would often drive there just for a quiet place to go. I loved the Island and used to eat at the Red Apple Inn from time to time. They do have some great programs out there for people like you who are new to the area. I encourage you to find out more about them. Look up the "Red Barn" in Heber Springs... I don't remember the street it's on but it was just down the road from my grandmothers house. It's where she found most of the friends she had. They have live music and dancing, and it's such a great place. She often took me with her because she didn't want to go alone.

Oh My... this is going to turn into another blog if I'm not careful!

You know what - I think I'm going to PLAN on it being another blog - all about the activities to do and things to see around Greers Ferry Lake.

It's wonderful to hear from you Fran, and God bless you, my distant little Angel Lady.

  4. My Dear Amanda,

I am speechless!! I guess it really is a small world. I am sorry, I know this isn't a blog and I know you don't want it to be, so I will refrain. I will come back to the other one when I feel comfortable with it.

I love looking at the lake and I love the quietness of of it all. I am a bit distant until I know someone for awhile, something I am sure you can relate to. I shall look at this beautiful lake with miles and miles of shoreline with you in my mind, now that I know you have been in this very place. (From what I have seen here----- you made a wise decision to move to California where there are many more opportunities for you). Take care Dear Child!

    Thoughts and Prayers,
    Fran
